第四十九课 The end of a dream 美梦告终

一、摘要写作

1、摘要练习

分别使用快速阅读法、听写法和合并法练习写摘要。

将合并句子写的摘要贴到会员社区。自己根据课文内容，将可以合并的句子合并，去掉一些细节，篇幅争取控制在50字到60字。

2、继续做两句话概括的练习。

用两句概括，请大家自己做。

从第三十一课开始，我不再提供摘要练习的答案。请大家认真做好摘要练习，这是提高表达能力，进而提高写作能力，特别是围绕中心进行写作的好方法。希望大家坚持，我会在会员社区帮大家修改摘要，并且适当做一些讲评，选出比较好的摘要供大家参考。

二、本课重点：表示原因或伴随状况的分词短语

这一课的课文里出现的分词短语值得注意：

Tired of sleeping on the floor, a young man in Teheran saved up for years to buy a real bed.
Glancing at the bits of wood and metal that lay around him, the man sadly picked up the mattress and carried it into his house.

When he woke up, he was still on the mattress.
Having waken up, he was still on the mattress.
After he had put it on the floor, he promptly went to sleep again.
Having put it on the floor, he promptly went to sleep again.

如果状语从句的主语和主句的主语不一样，改写的时候在结构上就要有所变动：
Because the weather was very hot, he carried the bed on to the roof of house.
The weather being so hot, he carried the bed on to the roof of house.

并不是所有的状语从句都可以简化为分词短语的，比如：
Although the bed was smashed to pieces, the man was miraculously unhurt.

The story ended dramatically with a happy ending. 故事戏剧性地以大团圆结束。

三、作文线索

本课描述的是多年积蓄买的床一夜之间花为乌有，然而，主人却不为所动，继续睡觉。题目The end of a dream具有双重意思，这也是值得注意的地方。

请大家阅读下面这段文字，并用合并句子的方法改写，使描述更加生动、紧凑，但不可以丢掉任何内容，相反，可以加上一些细节。

My neighbor went to Hong Kong for a holiday. He could not return home. He did not have enough money. He called me. He asked me to look after his garden and his dog. I went into the garden. I wanted to pick some flowers. I wanted to water the flowers. I found his door unlocked. I went into the sitting room. One of the windows was smashed in a storm last night. I searched for his toolkit. I repaired the window. I went into his kitchen. I saw his dog lying on the floor. He was hungry. He was dying. I gave him some food. He looked at me. He barked only once. I knew I had to find a vet. Three days later, the dog was miraculously saved. He came to my house. I was surprised at his recovery…
