第六十二课 After the fire

一、摘要写作

1、摘要练习

分别使用快速阅读法、听写法和合并法练习写摘要。

将合并句子写的摘要贴到会员社区。自己根据课文内容，将可以合并的句子合并，去掉一些细节，篇幅争取控制在50字到60字。

2、继续做两句话概括的练习。

用两句概括，请大家自己做。

从第三十一课开始，我不再提供摘要练习的答案。请大家认真做好摘要练习，这是提高表达能力，进而提高写作能力，特别是围绕中心进行写作的好方法。希望大家坚持，我会在会员社区帮大家修改摘要，并且适当做一些讲评，选出比较好的摘要供大家参考。

二、本课重点：过去将来时的用法

过去将来表示在过去某一时间或动作之前已经完成的动作。

1. A short time before, great trees had covered the countryside for miles around.
2. He had learned some English before he came to the university.
3. The play had already started by the time they arrived.

我们也可以用一个由before, after, as soon as等连词引导的从句来表示与主句的动作紧接在一起，先后发生，那么，这个时候，由于连词本身已经表达了两个动作发生的先后关系，两个动词也可以使用一般过去时来表示，如：
4. After I went over my lessons, I went to bed.
5. He studied at the university before he went abroad.
6. They started cleaning up things after the fire was put out.

三、值得学习的句子

1. Firemen had been fighting the forest fire for nearly three weeks before they could get it under control.
If you cannot get the car under control, you are in deep trouble.
She is always trying to get him under control.
They promised they are going to bring the economy under control.

2. In place of the great trees which had been growing there for centuries, patches of green had begun to appear in the blackened soil.
He is making progress and receiving awards in place of criticism from his teacher.

3. Heavy rain would not only wash away the soil but would cause serious floods as well.
Reading would not only help one understand the society but would give one more chances to move up their career ladder.

四、课后作文练习

Search online and write a piece about the destruction of trees in China.
