Some movies are serious, designed to make the audience think. Other movies are designed primarily to amuse and entertain. Which type of movie do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Example Writing:

Many people like to see movies for a simple reason: to escape for a while from life's reality into a make-believe world of fiction. A movie designed to make the audience think is an educational film, often being serious and far from boring. Because fiction mostly imitates life, a movie of a serious kind is enjoyable by presenting insights into the complexity of human nature.

While some people are willing to pay more to be amused than to be educated, a serious movie is never out of fashion. Untold stories need telling. Any movie wants to say something, but a serious movie in particulr has "something" to say. This "something" makes a difference. Against the sights of scenery and sounds of music, a story develops according to a no-nosense plot, capturing the hearts and minds of the audience. A movie can be both emotional and rational simultaneously if so designed to be serious.

To make the audience think, a story has a logical plot as does a good play or a novel. A series of incidents and coincidents develop effectively as if holding mirrors to human nature. Themes are serious. Love and hatred. Ambition and fear. Greed and forgiveness. Life and death. Courage and revenge. Or combinations of these and other human qualities which are true to life. Such qualities are chracterized by actors and actresses so dramtically that a serious movie seldom fails to influence the audience, realizing that essential human qualities have never changed since known history.

Nowadays, movies are getting popular as most of them are amusing as well as serious. Facing modern lives, which have become increasingly complex and stressful, people are likely to look for solutions in fiction to their problems in life. If a person doesn't know where the problem is, it's better to go to serious movies. It's that such a person hasn't seen enough serious films. Believe it or not, all of life's riddles are answered in the movies. The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction has to make sense. That's why a serious movie can make the audience think. Or remember. Or forget. Or dream.
