1、摘要写作

When Mr. Harmsworth wanted to see me, I felt very nervous. After I went into his office, he said the business was bad, the firm could not pay large salaries and twenty people had left already. But he offered me an extra of 1,000 pounds a year. (47字)

概括型版本：

I thought Mr. Harmsworth would ask me to leave the company when he wanted to see me in his office. But instead he offered me an extra 1,000 pounds a year. (29字)

2、作文

Bad news

My colleague told me that Mr. Sucker, my boss, would see me. I felt very happy when I went into his office. He looked up from his desk and came over to shake hands with me when I entered. After I had sat down, he said that business was very good. He told me that the firm could afford to pay more now. Twenty people had already got a raise. I knew that my turn had come.

“Mr. Sucker,” I said in an appreciating voice.

“Don’t interrupt,” he said.

Then he gave me an envelope and told me that I had received an extra month of pay and I didn’t have to come back to work any more.

二、摘要写作

1、继续按照前面的合并句子的方法来练习摘要写作。自己根据课文内容，将可以合并的句子合并，去掉一些细节，篇幅争取控制在50字到60字。答案见下期。

2、继续做两句话概括的练习。

用两句概括，先给出后面一句，请大家做出前面一句。答案见下期。

(Most of the time a traffic policeman won’t let you go without a ticket if you park in a wrong place.) But during a holiday in Sweden, the traffic police only gave me a reminder and asked me politely to pay attention to street signs.

三、本课重点：基本句型拓展：条件状语从句

本课里出现了用“if”引导的条件状语从句：

If you park your car in the wrong place, a traffic policeman will soon find it.

You will be very lucky if you go without a ticket.

You will enjoy your stay here if you pay attention to our street signs.

If you receive a request like this, you cannot fail to obey it!

我们发现有两句是条件状语从句放在主句前面，另外两句则放在主句后面。由此可见，条件状语从句的位置是比较灵活的。但是，一般来说，“if”引导的条件状语从句放在前面，则强调后面的主句，而放在主句后面，则强调该从句。此外，也有行文的考虑。如If you receive a request like this, you cannot fail to obey it!这一句，把条件状语从句放在前面，主要是因为句子里的a request like this是指前文的“pay attention to our street signs”，显得衔接很紧密，而且，这一句强调的正好是后面的主句，还加了感叹号。

请大家修改下列句子，使段落读起来更加通顺一些：

It should be a fine day tomorrow. I shall take an umbrella with me if it rains. Otherwise, I won’t get the job if my suit gets wet.

四、作文线索

本课先说明违章停车会受到什么样的处罚，然后再讲述作者自己的亲身经历，虽然也是比较有意思的一篇短文，但是，本人以为，这篇课文过多考虑了介绍“if” 条件状语从句，好象完全是为了演示该类型从句的用途一般，所以，有些句子显得生硬，整篇课文有点零乱。

现在请大家以第三项本课重点里的需要修改的小段落为基础，将它拓展为一篇小短文。请你加上一些细节，如：去招工面试时应该穿戴整齐、面试人出于行业的需要特别注重仪表等。参考答案见下期。
