Lesson 37 The Olympic Games

1. The Olympic Games will be held in our country in four years’ time.
The Olympic Games：奥运会
注意：Olympic和Games都要大写，同时Games是复数。

Hold的用法：（特殊难点）

In four years’ time：四年以后。

2. As a great many people will be visiting the country, the government will be building new hotels, an immense stadium, and a new Olympic-standard swimming pool.

As这里表示“由于”，表示原因。可以用because代替。

Immense是形容词，表示“巨大的”（extremely large）。

Olympic-standard是个“形容词＋名词”形式的复合形容词，作定语。意思是“（符合）奥运会标准的”。

3. They will also be building new roads and a special railway line.
A special railway line：一条铁路专线
Special在此处表示“专门的”、“特设的”。Line做名词意思是“线、绳、线路”。这里是指“铁路轨线”。

4. The Games will be building just outside the capital and the whole area will be called ‘Olympic City’.
Capital做名词我们必须记住3个意思：a.首都b.资本c.大写字母
The capital of China is Beijing.中国的首都是北京。
You’ll need more capital if you want to open your own business.如果你想自己做生意，就需要更多的资金。

5. Workers will have completed the new roads by the end of this year.
6. By the end of next year, they will have finished work on the new stadium.
以上两句都使用了“将来完成时”。将来完成时用于表示到将来某一个时刻已经完成的动作，这个语法seabow会详细和大家解释。这里“by+确切的时间” 是将来完成时经常连用的结构，表示“在什么时间之前”。

7. The fantastic modern buildings have been designed by Kurt Gunter.
Fantastic在口语中经常用来表示“极好的，很棒的”。比如：
How are you doing？（你今天怎么样阿？）Fantastic!（很好啊！）
Sounds like a fantastic idea!听起来是个很棒的想法！
当fantastic在形容数字、建筑物的时候，也可以表示其“巨大的、很大的”意思。那么我们课文这里是表示“巨大的现代化建筑”。

8. Everybody will be watching anxiously as the new buildings go up.
大家都将急切地注视着新建筑的建成。

这里再次复习一下watch的用法。

9. We are all very excited and are looking forward to the Olympic Games because they have never been held before in this country.

这里加入“特殊难点”中的“look”的用法解释。包括look forward to；look out；look up。
Look forward to：
Look forward to表示“期待、盼望”的意思，后面要跟名词或是动名词。比如：
I am looking forward to meeting you.我期盼着与你见面。
