Definition: To handle something very casually; to do something without a real purpose; to play around.

【世博精解】

这个惯用语十分形象，字面上看就是像猴一样四处窜来窜去，所以它就表示闲逛、闲混，不认真做事，或者是玩耍。例句如I wish that he would be more serious. He wants to just monkey around.这个用语有点像hang around，它也有闲逛、拖延的意思，只是更侧重于在附近逛来逛去及其引申的意思，比如我们可以说Stop hanging around at the doorway. Come in or get out if you want!也可以说 I’ve been hanging around in the chatroom for a whole day.

Jack: Mom, what does this thing do? 妈妈，这是做什么的？
