rub it in

Meaning: to do or say something intended to make one feel worse.

Example: I know I paid too much for the car; you don't have to rub it in. ( 我知道这车我买得太贵了，但你也没必要刺激我嘛。)

这个习惯用语实际上是由rub salt in the wound 缩短而来，而中文里正好有个蛮对应的说法，即：往伤口上撒盐。另外，rub it in也可以表示向别人反复地讲某件不太愉快的事，如： Father never failed to rub it in/into the family how much they depended on his money.
