David: As much as I hate you treating me like a doormat, it’s even worse seeing your father treat you like one.
Keith: You think I treat you like a doormat?
David: Sometimes. Why don’t you stand up to him?
Keith: I don’t think I treat you like a doormat.
David: Sometimes you do.

戴维：虽然我恨你把我当作出气包，但看到你父亲那样子对你让我感到更难受。
基斯：你觉得我把你当作出气包？
戴维：有时候。你为什么不面对他呢？

【世博视角】

Doormat是个合成词，由door (门)和mat（垫子）组成，意指放在门口处供人“蹭鞋”或“踩”的“门垫”。“门垫”是专供人踩的东西，那用它来形容那些打不还手，骂不还口的“受气包儿”是不是非常贴切呢？又比如：
You are plain doormat. Why couldn’t you say “NO”?
你真是个受气包儿。你怎么就不能说个“不”字呢？

对于这样的受气包我们可能会鼓励他们勇敢地站起来，去面对那些欺负他们的人，stand up to 这个习语就是这个意思，stand up本身就表示“站起来”, to 后面跟上“所要面对的人或事”，例如：
You've got to stand up to the boss if you want him to respect you.
如果你要老板尊重你的话，你就必须勇敢地面对他。
